Do I need a heat pump?
It is possible to install a heat pump not only in the case of newly constructed buildings, but also in existing properties, for example within the framework of a modernization or renovation.
If you choose a heat pump system, it can be a good decision in any case, since you can ensure your home’s cooling, heating or hot water production in an energy-saving and economical way.
It is worth considering it as a long-term investment, since even though the installation is quite costly, over time you can not only reduce your regular expenses with it, but also have a positive effect on the energy characteristics and market value of the building.
What kind of equipment should I buy?
Although some points of reference can already give direction as to what type of device may be suitable for a given need, in each case we create the right solution together with the customer within the framework of individual consultation, on-site survey and advice.
Where should the outdoor unit be?
In the case of air-to-water heat pumps – although it may be tempting to place the unit in tight spaces for aesthetic reasons – it must not be forgotten that heat pumps draw heat from the outdoor air, so the more access they have, the better they will work. In their immediate vicinity, we avoid lush vegetation, places prone to blowing snow, and buildings that could obstruct the air flow around the heat pump.
When choosing the installation location, we must keep in mind the easiest possible access, for easy serviceability. A supporting foundation standing on its own legs is the best way to minimize noise and to keep the unit out of the way of rakes, shovels or lawnmowers, and to prevent falling snow in winter.
Heat pump installation
The last step is to install the heat pump. Based on European Union legislation, certain types of installation work (for example, disassembling and installing a cooling circuit) can only be carried out by a specialist with the appropriate authorization, so professional execution of the installation is also essential.
What does a heat pump service activity include?
In order to properly maintain the heat pump, the qualified heating technician performs a number of checks during servicing. The specific checks may vary depending on the type of your heat pump, but we describe some general checks that are usually carried out:
- The area around the pump should be free of dirt that clogs filters and reduces efficiency.
- Individual components such as electrical connections, fan motors, capacitors, and compressor start-up and running times should also be checked.
- Fan blades and dirty or clogged filters should be cleaned and filters may need to be replaced if they are too clogged.
- Other manufacturer-specified tasks
The aim of the service is to keep your heat pump running as efficiently as possible and to identify and treat potential problems before they become a bigger problem.
Who can service a heat pump?
In order to service the heat pump, it is important that it is carried out by a suitably qualified heating engineer with a European Union environmental protection test and certificate.
This certification ensures that the technician is also qualified to handle refrigerants and maintain heat pump refrigerant components.
